London 2012: Legend Pele hopes Brazil wins gold
"People say, Brazil doesn''t have a gold medal in Olympics (soccer). I say, yes, I started to play at 17-years-old in the World Cup, and I became a professional, and at that time, professionals could not play," Pele was quoted as saying in Daily Star.
Pele, who was instrumental in Brazil's three World Cup wins, recently received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh for his contributions to humanitarian and environmental causes as well as his achievements in football.
"I thank not only my family, but all my friends, my players, because you cannot do things alone. I have a lot of people who helped me to be here," Pele was quoted as saying in Daily Star.
Pele, who scored over 1000 goals for club Santos in all competitions, hopes Brazil can clinch their first ever gold when they take on Mexico in the final on Saturday.
"I hope now I''m here, I hope we get the gold medal that I never got," he said.
