Liverpool Acknowledges Set-Piece Vulnerabilities After Late Equaliser Against Leeds United
Liverpool's challenging season continued with a 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road. Despite leading twice, they conceded a late equaliser. Hugo Ekitike scored twice for Liverpool, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach quickly levelled the score. Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool's lead, only for Ao Tanaka to equalise in stoppage time.
Liverpool's vulnerability from set-pieces was evident again, as they have conceded 10 goals this way in the Premier League this season. Only Nottingham Forest has allowed more goals from dead-ball situations. Arne Slot expressed disbelief over the result, stating, "To go away with a 3-3 draw, I don't think that's what we deserved."

The Reds' defensive issues are not new. Since last season, they've conceded two or more goals in 15 away games, more than most teams except Bournemouth and Leicester City. This pattern of conceding late goals has been costly for Liverpool this season.
Dominik Szoboszlai urged his teammates to unite and fight for the club. He acknowledged the team's struggles and emphasised the need for collective responsibility. "Everybody has to go on the pitch and show they are ready to fight for this badge," he said.
Liverpool currently sits eighth in the Premier League table, trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points. The team needs to find solutions to their defensive frailties if they hope to climb higher in the standings.
Slot highlighted that conceding frequently from set-pieces prevents them from being higher up the table. He noted that it's crucial for the team to look inward and address these recurring issues themselves.
Tanaka's late goal marked Liverpool's third instance of conceding a decisive goal in stoppage time this season. This equals their record for such occurrences in a single campaign, last seen in 2010-11.
The match against Leeds demonstrated Liverpool's ongoing challenges with maintaining leads and defending set-pieces effectively. As they aim to improve their league position, addressing these weaknesses will be essential for future success.
