Juventus Urged By Spalletti To Show True Level Against Galatasaray In Champions League Playoff
Juventus prepare for a demanding Champions League play-off second leg against Galatasaray, with Luciano Spalletti stressing that greater defensive stability is essential. The side trail by three goals on aggregate and now return to Allianz Stadium needing a major response in front of home supporters.
The first meeting in Turkiye swung sharply against Juventus. Spalletti’s team led 2-1 at half-time but ended up losing 5-2, after substitute Juan Cabal received a red card and Galatasaray took full advantage of the extra space in the second half.

That defeat carries historical weight for Juventus in major European competition. It was only the second time Juventus have conceded at least five goals in such a match, following a 7-0 loss to Wiener Sport-Club in the 1958-59 European Cup campaign.
Spalletti now looks at this second leg as both risk and opportunity. Juventus must overturn a three-goal margin at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, and the coach believes the tie still offers a chance to display character to the home crowd.
Historical data underlines the difficulty of Juventus’ situation. Before this season, there have been 49 occasions where a team lost the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie by three or more goals. Only four teams have managed to turn such ties around and advance.
{TABLE_1}Those successful comebacks came from Deportivo de La Coruna against AC Milan in 2003-04, Barcelona versus Paris Saint-Germain in 2016-17, Roma against Barcelona in 2017-18, and Liverpool versus Barcelona in 2018-19. Juventus now attempt to become the fifth club on that list.
Spalletti has underlined that any revival will depend on a collective effort inside the stadium. The coach has asked for complete backing from the stands, while also demanding that Juventus show a stronger, more compact defensive shape across the full 90 minutes.
Spalletti framed the moment in artistic terms, while stressing the emotional role of supporters. "Some games arent just played, but composed, said Spalletti. It requires the involvement and participation of the whole environment, and we need the spirit of our fans."
The situation, as Spalletti sees it, demands resilience as well as quality. "We know its a delicate situation, but were asking them to stand by our side tomorrow. With them by our side, we are stronger. We need to be more solid than we have been. We know our worth, we need to be united and compact. We are hammering this home with the guys. We have to show that what we are right now, is not what weve shown. Weve reset, and were ready to play the match at our best level. Hard times dont take away your value, they force you to show it. We wont live a dream, well live a situation that weve earned. Well have to go for it, remembering all the efforts weve made to be at this level. It is a reward for what weve put in to get here."
For Juventus, this second leg against Galatasaray represents a test of resolve as much as tactics. The club’s recent heavy defeat, rare in its European history, sets a demanding target, yet Spalletti and the squad treat the match as a chance to validate the work that has taken them to this stage.
