Ivan Toney Remains With Brentford Despite Missing Season Opener, Says Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank has clarified that Ivan Toney is not about to leave Brentford, despite his absence from the squad against Crystal Palace. Frank omitted Toney from Brentford's Premier League opener on Sunday, attributing the decision to transfer rumours surrounding the England forward. However, Brentford still secured a 2-1 victory.

The 28-year-old striker has attracted interest from several English clubs and teams in the Saudi Pro League. Despite this, Frank quickly dismissed any suggestions that Toney was on the verge of departing. When asked if Toney was close to a move, Frank responded: "No, it's not close."

Frank did acknowledge that Toney might eventually leave Brentford. In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, when questioned if it was a matter of when and not if Toney would leave, he said: "Yes, I guess that's fair."

Toney has been a key player for Brentford since joining in 2020, scoring 72 goals in 141 appearances. Losing him would be significant for the team. However, Frank remains optimistic that other players can rise to the occasion.

"I think Ivan is a top player," Frank stated. "He has been one of our best players over a long spell. All the top players in the Premier League will eventually leave their clubs, and someone else will have to step up and perform well."
