Former state footballer K P Krishnan passes away

Mumbai, Jun 7 (UNI) K P Krishnan, a roving centre-half for Tatas and member of the 1954 Santosh Trophy winning Mumbai team, passed away due to an illness in Kozhikode, Kerala today. He was 87.

After his playing days, Krishnan earned coaching accolades with Matunga Athletic Club.

Krishnan made a name for himself on coaching front with his unique cross-passing method, which inspired MAC's 2-1 defeat of Mohun Bagan in the 1959 Rovers Cup quarterfinal. Olympian S S Narayan is one of the internationals who came under his wing, apart from many state players.

He represented Tatas Sports Club with distinction in the 40s and 50s.
