FC Bayern to set up football academy in Bardhaman

Kolkata, Apr 29 (UNI) FC Bayern of Germany was keen to set up a football academy in West Bengal and the state government was considering the proposal, Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen said today.

Talking to mediapersons on his recent visit to Germany, Mr Sen said the government was considering to allot land in Bardhaman district for setting up the football academy.

The Minister made this observation after Bengal Peerless MD K S Bagchi, who was also present in the news conference, drew the attention of Mr Sen to an e-mail from FC Bayern expressing interest for the academy.

'' It's a great offer to provide world class coaching to our footballers and we are discussing it at length,'' he observed.

Mr Sen during his visit to Germany witnessed a football match of FC Bayern, who is scheduled to a play a friendly match against Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake Stadium on May 27.

In this connection, the Minister handed over a letter of welcome to Oliver Kahn (who will be playing his last match for FC Bayern in Kolkata) signed by over half-a-million fans from West Bengal.
