Dan Ashworth Departs Manchester United As Sporting Director After Just Five Months
Dan Ashworth has departed from his position as Manchester United's sporting director, just five months after joining the club. United had pursued Ashworth vigorously while he was at Newcastle United, leading to a five-month gardening leave before he officially started with the Red Devils. Reportedly, significant compensation was paid to Newcastle for his services.
His tenure began on July 1, but now, merely five months later, Ashworth has exited Old Trafford by mutual consent. "We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future," stated the club.

Ashworth spearheaded Manchester United's recruitment efforts over the summer. The club aimed to support Erik ten Hag, who was later dismissed in October. During this period, players such as Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte were added to strengthen the senior squad.
Recently, Manchester United faced a 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest. This marked new manager Ruben Amorim's second consecutive loss and his first at Old Trafford. As a result of this defeat, United currently stands in 13th place in the Premier League.
The departure of Ashworth comes amid a challenging phase for Manchester United. The club is navigating through managerial changes and trying to improve its standing in the league. Despite these challenges, they continue to focus on building a competitive team for future success.
