Copa-Brazil striker Fred breaks foot in practice

PUERTO LA CRUZ, Venezuela, June 29 (Reuters) Brazil striker Fred was ruled out of the Copa America after breaking his right foot during a practice match.

Brazil team doctor Jose Luis Runco confirmed the injury after the Olympique Lyon player, who dejectedly left the field, was submitted to an X-ray yesterday.

''This would normally take around one month to recover from,'' Runco told reporters.

Fred, who did not play in the previous night's 2-0 defeat to Mexico, was sidelined for around six weeks earlier this season with an ankle injury.

Brazil won the practice game against local side Deportivo Anzoategui 14-0.
