Colombia 2-0 Jordan As Arias Brace Concludes World Cup Preparations

Jhon Arias struck twice as Colombia beat Jordan 2-0 in a World Cup warm-up at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, with Jordan finishing the match with 10 players after Amer Jamous received a late red card for a second yellow following a foul on Jorge Carrascal.

The result completed a perfect friendly schedule for Colombia before the tournament, adding to an earlier win and offering more positive signs for head coach Nestor Lorenzo, while Jordan created several threats of their own but lacked composure in the final third, especially after the dismissal reduced their numbers.

Arias’ brace capped an eventful club spell, after a high-profile move from Fluminense to Wolves and then a swift permanent switch to Palmeiras, where Arias has three goals in 13 Serie A matches, and the winger showed renewed confidence here by testing goalkeeper Nour Bani Attiah with all three attempts on goal.

The Palmeiras midfielder’s finishing was clinical, with an overall expected goals value of 0.52 across those shots, and Arias also linked well with James Rodriguez on the right side of Colombia’s attack, a combination that repeatedly troubled Jordan’s defence once spaces began to open after half-time.

Colombia made several half-time substitutions but kept Arias on the field, and that decision paid off around 10 minutes after the restart when a neat passing move involving James on the right ended with a cross that Arias met with a powerful header that Bani Attiah could not keep out.

Colombia looked close to a third when Richard Rios and Jaminton Campaz attacked the same ball inside the box and hindered each other, while Jordan almost pulled one back through Ali Azaizeh, but their late push faded after Jamous’ sliding challenge on Carrascal led to the second booking and dismissal.

Elsewhere in World Cup preparation, Ecuador ended their build-up with a 3-0 victory over Guatemala in Columbus as Jordy Caicedo, Nilson Angulo and Pervis Estupinan all found the net, adding another clean sheet and spreading goals across the team before Ecuador also head into tournament action.
