After the incident, the medics were rushed to the pitch and the match was halted. The Danish star was unconscious for a few seconds but then came back to sense. The player was treated on the field and then was sent at a hospital for further evaluations.

Christian Eriksen Health Update

Christian Eriksen is currently conscious and is out of danger. He is being evaluated at the hospital for the cause of the incident.

The Danish FA (DBU) stated: "Christian Eriksen is conscious and is doing well under the circumstances."

The match was abandoned, with players from both teams forming a circle of support. Eriksen walked to the ambulance amid applause.

"As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him," Denmark team's doctor Morton Boesen said.

"He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay," he added, thus bringing much relief to the world.

Christian Eriksen's Collapse in 2021

On 12 June 2021, during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland in Copenhagen, Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed in the 42nd minute. While standing near the touchline preparing for a throw-in, he fell face down without any contact. Teammates, led by captain Simon Kjær, quickly formed a protective circle around him.

The team doctor confirmed he had suffered a cardiac arrest; his heart had stopped. Eriksen received immediate CPR and was revived with a defibrillator on the pitch after several minutes. He was conscious by the time he was stretchered off, even waving to the crowd. The match was temporarily suspended but later resumed; Finland won 1-0.

Eriksen was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) to manage heart rhythm issues. The incident stunned the football world and prompted improved medical protocols in stadiums.

Eriksen made a full recovery and returned to professional football, first with Brentford in 2022, then Manchester United. He has since represented Denmark again, including at Euro 2024.

Prior to 2021, Eriksen had no known heart condition or documented on-pitch collapse. Medical investigations found no family history of cardiac issues.
