Bulgarian winger Petrov joins Manchester City
LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) Manchester City have signed Bulgaria winger Martin Petrov from Atletico Madrid for 4.7 million pounds, the Premier League club today said.
The move is subject to the 28-year-old Petrov, who has agreed a three-year deal and has passed a medical, being granted a work permit.
Petrov said he turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur and link-up with Spurs and Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov.
''There was an interest from the two clubs (Tottenham and Manchester City) but City made a better offer, which satisfied me and Atletico as well,'' Petrov told Bulgarian Darik radio.
''I've already met Sven-Goran Eriksson and his presence in the club also played an essential role.'' Petrov, capped over 60 times by Bulgaria and with previous spells at CSKA Sofia, Servette and VfL Wolfsburg, is new manager Eriksson's fourth signing since the Swede took charge at Eastlands earlier this month.
Eriksson has also signed Italian striker Rolando Bianchi from Reggina, Brazilian midfielder Geovanni and Swiss under-21 captain Gelson Fernandes.
