Beckham named 'America's Favourite Sports Idol'

London, Aug 4 : British soccer ace David Beckham has been named 'America's Favourite Sports Idol' by the nation's kids.

Beckham - who plays for Californian team LA Galax - was presented with the prestigious honour at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on Aug 3, reports the Sun.

The 33-year-old footballer has beaten national heroes including basketball ace Kobe Bryant and golfer Tiger Woods to bag the honour.

Beckham even triumphed over Super Bowl sensation Eli Manning, who led the New York Giants to victory this year in the pinnacle of the US sporting calendar.

The accolade comes hand in hand with the former England captain achieving a first as a US style icon.
