Asom upset Maharshtra in football competitions

Guwahati, Feb 9 (UNI) Hosts Asom began their National Games football campaign in great style as they drubbed highly fancied Maharashtra 4-0 in the men's events which began before the Games are thrown open today.

In another match neighbouring Meghalaya gave scant respect to the past reputation upsetting Punjab 2-1. Meghalaya were leading 2-0 in the first half.

In the only women's football match played so far, reigning champions Manipur drubbed Tamil Nadu 4-2. Manipur could have won by a bigger margin but the slippery condition of the ground robbed them many scoring opportunities.
