Asom, Meghalaya make winning start in men's football
Guwahati, Feb 9 (UNI) G Zoramchhana scored a brace to help Meghalaya beat two-time champion Punjab the mens football section on the first day of the 33rd National Games here today.
Zoramchhana found the net on the 45th and 64th minutes of the match while Guriqbal was the lone scorer for Punjab in the closing stages of the match in the 90th minute.
Earlier, host's Asom had thrashed Maharashtra 4-0.
Just seven minutes into the match, Ajit Singh scored the first goal for Asom but did not have to wait too long for the second as Sanjeeba Rongpi scored the second in the 14th minute and then completed the tally, scoring the fourth in the 85th minute.
Durga Boro was the other scorer for the hosts, finding the net in the 55th minute.
