Younis promise better show by Pakistan team in World Cup

London, Mar 3 (UNI) Pakistan vice captain Younis Khan has sounded a warning to the rivals who are underestimating his side's potential and promised a better show in the Caribbeans.

He however, admitted that absence of pace duo of Shoiab Akhtar and Mohammad Asif will be felt by the team in the island nation.

''We cannot rule out the fact that Shoaib and Asif's exclusion has made our bowling attack less formidable and menacing , but we still have good, experienced players who can make the difference for the team,'' Younis said.

In his coloum for a cricket website, the stylish right-handed batsman said, ''There has been some doom and gloom hovering over the Pakistan camp recently, but the team is confident about its goal going to the World Cup and capable of doing wonders on a good day.'' ''We feel that we can still beat any team in the Cup. The Super Eights will be very competitive with each team playing one another, and it would be a mistake for any team to take us lightly,'' he further elaborated.

Younis exuded confidence in the available bowling strength of the team and said, ''I really believe bowlers like Umar Gul, Sami and Rao Ifthtikar Anjum can be successful at the World Cup.'' Citing example of Imran Khan's 'cornered tigers', the prolific Peshawar batsman reminded the team's critics that in 1992 they emerged as champions against some heavy odds. ''People said all sorts of negative things about the Pakistan team before and during the 1992 World Cup and look what they achieved.'' ''But it's important that all the players perform to their potential. We are not relying on just one or two players; it is up to every member of the squad to play well for the team and contribute.'' ''The bottom line is that we are very positive, the boys are in good spirits, and nobody is thinking that we cannot do well in the West Indies. We will soon have the chance to prove it on the pitch,'' an optimistic Younis said.
