WTC 2023-25 Standings After ENG vs WI 2nd Test: England Jump Three Spots After Series-Clinching Win

England moved up three spots to occupy seventh spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings after a comprehensive 241-run series-clinching win over West Indies in the second Test at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Sunday (July 21).

Ben Stokes-led England were challenged by Kraigg Brathwaite’s West Indies in the first innings, conceding a 41-run lead, but Joe Root, Harry Brook and Shoaib Bashir turned the game in favour of the hosts, who claimed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The hosts wrapped up the series-clinching triumph late on the fourth day, with spinner Bashir (5/41) claiming the third five-wicket haul of his career to help England dismiss the West Indies for 143 in pursuit of 385 for victory.

As a result of this match, England overtook South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies to move up to 7th place on the updated World Test Championship points table

West Indies, on the other hand, dropped to ninth on the standings with a 22.22 percent win-loss percentage following the late fadeout against England at Trent Bridge.

With a 31.25 percent points percentage, England has a chance to leap-frog Pakistan to take sixth spot with a series white-wash, but will still be behind the top five. Here is a look at the latest WTC standings:

England’s next assignment is the third and final Test against the Windies at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, starting on Friday (July 26). West Indies will look to bounce back and take some momentum when they host South Africa for a 2-Test series next month.

The lower half of the WTC table could see a little more change next month when Test action takes centre stage with Pakistan hosting Bangladesh and England playing hosts to Sri Lanka.
