WPP moves petition against PCB to end adhocism

Lahore, Aug 5 (UNI) Problems for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seems to be far from over, with Watan Party Pakistan (WPP) filing a petition in the Supreme Court to end the rule of 'adhocism' plaguing the country's cricket board.

WPP secretary Hashim Shaukat said the ''PCB constitution had been suspended and abrogated since 1999 and the whole system of the PCB was running on adhocism.

''The adhoc committee since then had assumed the functions of a general body and council. This had led to dictatorial implementation of PCB chairman's orders,'' he added.

The secretary also stated that ''the Pakistan cricket team is in a deplorable mess, lawlessness of application of the PCB constitution.

The Senate Standing Committee on Sports has passed a unanimous resolution, urging immediate implementation of the PCB constitution, he told The Daily Times.

Levelling serious allegation against PCB for missappropriation of funds, the WPP secretary said, the standing committee also asked for explanation of huge payments which were being made monthly to the chairman selection committee (Rs 270,000) and two members of the selection committee (Rs 215,000 each per month).

Similarly, media manager PJ Mir received 11,900 pounds for the one-month tour to the West Indies during the World Cup, he said.

He stated that the PCB ad-hoc committee held its meeting in June at Bhurban for the approval of Rs 2.44 billion for the PCB budget.

Mr Shaukat said a thorough probe into the income and expenditures of the PCB is required for which the court should issue directions. He also requested that till the final decision of the petitioner, an administrator should be appointed to control the finances and recover the stolen finances in any shape from individuals to corporations.
