World Cup 2023: Greg Chappell explains why scoring runs is hard for Virat Kohli at this point of his career

Former India coach Greg Chappell has revealed why scoring runs is not easy for Virat Kohli after spending 15 years in international cricket. He said that Kohli has reached the stage of his career where the opposition knows all his strengths and weaknesses.

The comments from Chappell come ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023 where he wants the former India captain to keep his game simple and walk in the ground with a very fresh mind.

“Virat is in that stage of his career where the opposition knows him inside out and he knows how hard it is to score runs at that level. It requires a special effort to score runs, and for that, you need to decompress yourself and just keep it simple," Greg Chappell told RevSportz.

"Virat also needs to go into these games mentally fresh and he knows what he needs to do. He has always prepared himself well. If He can achieve that, he will have a very good tournament.

"The way he played against Pakistan in T20 WC 2022 was the perfect exhibition of batting at that level. What I liked about it was that it was basic cricket. He played basically every ball on its merit and did to the bowlers what he wanted to do. He was the man in charge. It was a batting masterclass by the master himself," he added.

All eyes are on Virat Kohli who is understandably preparing for his last ODI World Cup. The 34-year-old won the coveted trophy in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni but is aiming to win it again as one of the senior most members of his side. The batting maestro would be next seen in action during the Asia Cup 2023 which starts from August 30.
