Women's events see referee stopping contests

Chennai, July 10 (UNI) Despite rain disrupting the proceedings twice, the women's events at the SRM Federation Cup Boxing Championship came to an end with referee stopping the contests.

As expected Railways and Haryana girls brushed aside the rivals in three bouts each to move into the semi-finals and Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Manipur girls won two bouts each to complete the day's schedule.

With seven of the 12 bouts ending in RSCs, it was pleasant to see S L Arya of Kerala giving Sushma Kumar a tough fight in the light bantam category.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's Parveen put up a good show against her rival Reena Kaushik of Haryana in the light bantam.

Parveen was too quick and sharp for the Haryana girl.

In just two rounds the local girl outscored the rival and the referee stopped the contest.

Sonia of Tamil Nadu too did a good job against Sushila Devi of Delhi.
