Winning the Cup essential to rejuvinate Windies Cricket: Lloyd
Bridgetown, Barbados, March 1 (UNI) Two-time World Cup winning captain Clive Lloyd feels that winning the showpiece event in the home turf will provide the required boost to the West Indies cricket.
''I think we can be a very formidable side. I know that these guys understand what is waiting for them out there. By winning the trophy they can give the West Indies people something to be really proud of and I hope they can do it in this edition of the cup, because that is the lift which both West Indian cricket and fans need,'' CMC Sports quoted Lloyd as saying.
Highlighting people's expectation with the West Indian side, the 62-year-old team co-ordinator said, ''Winning the coveted cup will be a magnificent effort and although people are cashing on other teams, but they are still hopeful that West Indies can replay the past glory.'' Citing the exmaple of the inaugural Cup glory in 1975, when the West Indies were considered as under-dogs, Lloyd pointed out that the impetus from that victory was instrumental in the development of the game in the Caribbean.
