Who can replace Rinku Singh in India vs Zimbabwe Super Eight Match if he's unavailable?
The Indian cricket team has been dealt a massive blow ahead of their crucial T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match against Zimbabwe. Star finisher Rinku Singh has left the team camp in Chennai and flown back home due to a grave family emergency.
Reports indicate that his father, Khanchand Singh, is battling stage-4 liver cancer and is currently on ventilator support at a hospital in Greater Noida.

A source close to the development stated, "Rinku Singh has flown back home from Chennai due to a family emergency. He did not join India's practice session at the Chepauk". With his return for the Thursday fixture highly uncertain, the team management faces a significant selection headache.
India's situation in the tournament is already precarious. Following a massive 76-run defeat to South Africa, their heaviest in T20 World Cup history, Suryakumar Yadav's men are desperate for a dominant victory against Zimbabwe to improve their net run rate of -3.800.
Rinku himself has had a quiet tournament so far, managing just 24 runs in five innings, including a duck in the previous match against the Proteas. His absence, however, forces India to rethink their middle-order balance and team combinations.
Who can replace Rinku Singh if he's unavailable vs Zimbabwe?
Sanju Samson
The wicketkeeper-batter is a strong candidate to enter the playing XI. Samson was seen taking throwdowns during the practice session and could easily be slotted into the top order. This move might replace the out-of-form Tilak Varma at No. 3, adding a right-handed option to break the left-hand monotony in India's batting lineup.
Axar Patel
If India wants to maintain batting depth while increasing their bowling options, they might choose to play both spin-bowling all-rounders. Axar could slot in as an all-rounder, giving captain Suryakumar extra flexibility with the ball on the spin-friendly Chepauk pitch.
Depending on the pitch conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the inclusion of a dynamic batter like Sanju Samson or a utility all-rounder like Axar Patel could provide the exact balance the team needs to secure a vital win and keep their semi-final hopes alive.
