West Indies crsuh Paksitan by 54 runs in WC opener
Kingston, Mar 13 (UNI) West Indies defeated Paksitan by 54 runs in the opening Group D match of the ICC World Cup here at Sabina Park today.
Chasing a challenging 242-run target, Pakistan were bundled out for 187 in 48th over. Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith took three wickets each while Daren Powell scalped two. Only Shoaib Malik (62, 54 balls) offered some resistance from the Sub-continent side.
Earlier the West Indies, after being put into bat, overcame a slow start to pile up 241 for the loss of nine wickets. Marlon Samuels top-scored with 63 (70 balls) while Smith chipped in with a whirlwind 15-ball 32.
