'Vignesh Puthur has matured, looks a Lot Sharper': Kerala stalwart Sony Cheruvathur pinpoints MI youngster's Emergence | Exclusive

Former Kerala player and stalwart Sony Cheruvathur has explained the reason why Vignesh Puthur has found success in the ongoing IPL 2025 extravaganza.

Vignesh, a young left-arm chinaman from Malappuram in Kerala, has made waves in the 18th edition of the IPL with his magical spells for Mumbai Indians. The youngster was picked by the Paltans in the auction has stamped his arrival in phenomenal fashion in the first few matches.

Puthur had a dream debut against Chennai Super Kings, where he picked up 3 wickets in a fantastic spell. Since then, he has picked up wickets in all the matches he has played so far for MI, epitomizing the bright spark for the five-time champions in this tournament.

Although MI have had a struggle so far in terms of results, Vignesh's unwavering skills and gutsy bowling have caught the eye of the nation. MyKhel had an exclusive chat with Cheruvathur, who has seen Vignesh in close quarters. And the former Kerala player pinpointed the exact methods which have brought success to the MI starlet. He watched him during the Kerala Cricket League and pointed out the areas where the youngster has significantly improved.

"I was also part of KCL with the franchisee. And there we had some good interactions. And then seeing him here, I clearly see he has matured as a player and has developed his skill sets to make it sharper," Cheruvathur said.

Cheruvathur also believes the player has also mastered his alternative skills as a chinaman and has induced the batters to get into the trap with his accuracy.

"That's[the improvement] what I can see, especially the wrong ones and the lines he is bowling. With his variations, he is putting a doubt into the batter. Also the way he is trying to get it closer to the stumps is causing problems. The way he has been bowling is quite phenomenal," the Kerala stalwart added.

Vignesh has already made a strong impression and will be aiming to continue his rosy form as the season progresses.
