USA Break Nepal's Associate Record with Dominant 93-Run Triumph In T20 World Cup 2026

The United States kept their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign alive with a commanding 93-run victory over the Netherlands in Chennai on Friday. In a crucial Group A encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the American side delivered a complete performance with both bat and ball to secure their first win of the tournament.

Asked to bat first after Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss, the USA put up an imposing 196 for six in their allotted 20 overs. The top order laid a solid platform before the middle order accelerated in the closing stages, ensuring the Dutch bowlers were kept under pressure throughout the innings.

Defending a challenging total, the USA bowlers struck early and never allowed the Netherlands to settle. Regular breakthroughs dented the chase, and the European side was eventually bowled out for just 103 in 15.5 overs. The emphatic margin of victory underlined the gulf between the two teams on the day.

Led by Monank Patel, the United States knew the contest was a must-win to remain in contention for a place in the Super 8 stage. The players responded with urgency and composure, producing arguably their finest performance in a global tournament.

The 93-run triumph also etched the USA's name in the record books. It is now the largest win by run margin for an associate nation in T20 World Cup history. The previous benchmark stood at 80 runs, set by Nepal against Hong Kong in Chattogram in 2014.

While the USA celebrated a historic milestone, the overall record for the biggest win by runs in a T20 World Cup match remains with Sri Lanka national cricket team, who defeated Kenya by 172 runs during the 2007 edition in Johannesburg.

For the USA, however, this dominant showing in Chennai has not only revived their campaign but also signalled their growing presence on cricket's biggest stage.
