UP not ignored by BCCI during selection for Bangladesh tour-Rajiv
Lucknow, Apr 22(UNI) BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla today said Uttar Pradesh has not been ignored during the selection of the Indian team for its tour of Bangladesh.
''Already two players-- Piyush Chawla and R P Singh-- have been selected for the one-dayers while Suresh Raina has sustained injury and has been advised rest for two months'' he said.
Talking to mediapersons, Mr Shukla said that Mohammad Kaif's name was also discussed in the meeting but Dinesh Mongia was given the chance in his place.
Criticising the Samajwadi Party government in the state for playing a spoilsport, the Congress leader said that due to ' anti cricket policy' of the take government, Uttar Pradesh could not hold two international cricket matches at Kanpur.
''Now in the assembly elections the cricketing fans should teach the SP a lesson for preventing cricket matches in the state,'' he said.
Mr Shukla also lamented that the proposal for constructing a new cricket stadium by UP Cricket Association(UPCA) was pending due to non-availability of land.
