Bengaluru, Feb 19: Rising Pune Supergiants have removed MS Dhoni as the captain of their side and appointed Steve Smith as the new leader for the upcoming IPL season.

Rising Pune who had made their debut last season in the IPL finished 7th in the 8-team tournament winning only 5 matches out of the scheduled 14.
Franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka confirmed that they have decided to remove Dhoni from captaincy and appoint and younger captain Steve Smith from the new season.
The news came as a shocker for many just before the IPL 2017 auction day which is scheduled to happen on February 20 at Bengaluru.
