'the warriors' to hold tennis ball Cricket tourney

Chennai, Aug 24: ''The Warriors'', an event management group,will be conducting a state-level tennis ball cricket tournament in indoors for the first time from September 3 to 5 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Indian Indpendence.

Organising Secretary Arulnidhi said here today, the tournament would be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium under floodlight.

As many as 32 teams from across the state would vie for honours in the tournament to be held on knock out basis, with eight overs a side. Each team would comprise nine members.

Leading players from the state, including first division league and Ranji players, would participate in the tournament which offered a winner's purse of Rs 50,000 and runner-up award of Rs 25,000.

The losing semifinalists would get Rs 8,000 each. Several awards like man of the match and man of the series would be given.

''The Warriors'' would be formally launched on September three and the group was planning to conduct various events in the future.
