Team India needs passion to fashion WC glory again: Kapil
New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) It was triumph of the underdogs when he led the ''Kapil's Devils'' to the 1983 glory and Kapil Dev, so far country's lone World Cup winning captain, is convinced that Rahul Dravid can emulate him provided the ''Men in Blue'' give their 100 per cent on the field.
Drawing a parallel with the team he led then, Kapil said, ''The current team does not lack anywhere. In fact they have the potentials to produce even better results. All they need is to give 100 per cent out there.
''Rahul and his teammates will have to show the passion and determination to corner the ultimate glory. My advice would be -- give your heart and soul and the country is behind you,'' he told reporters here today.
He also urged fans to keep faith in the team to do well in the West Indies.
Kapil, however, refused to entertain any debate on the team selection.
''There is no point debating it now. You have to accept that this is the team the selectors have picked and they must have gone for the best combination. There should not be any confusion. If this is the team we are sending for the World Cup, wish them luck, '' he said.
On Irfan Pathan's selection too, Kapil was not forthright with his comment and said, ''That's something the selectors have decided and I'm not one of them.'' The former all-rounder also opined that having star players alone won't do and it would need a team effort to lay fingers on the title.
''Cricket is not an individual game but a team game. You have 15 players, coach, manager and rest of the support staff. Everyone has to play his role to achieve success,'' he explained.
''It's foolhardy to think that one or two star players would win you the cup. This is just not possible. Everyone has to stand up and deliver,'' he added.
Team India may boast of a formidable but Kapil felt the side would have to shine in all departments of the game.
''These days, it's not good enough to be sound in just one department, for that won't bring you the cup. You have to put up superior performance in batting, bowling and fielding as well.
''I think the team is also working hard to improve the fielding standard and the results will show in the World Cup,'' he added.
He became nostalgic while reminscing about the 1983 World Cup and said, ''It's a great memory and it feels good that every time World Cup comes, every one talks about us.'' UNI
