Taseer resigns as member of Shoaib tribunal

Lahore, May 31 (UNI) Salman Taseer has resigned as a member of the appellate tribunal hearing the temperamental seamer Shoaib Akhtar's case following his appointment as the Governor of Punjab.

Taseer sent his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yesterday, saying that after his appointment as Governor, he was not in a position to sit on the tribunal due to time constraints.

''The Chairman of the board will now appoint someone to replace Taseer after consulting the head of the tribunal, Justice (retd) Aftab Farrukh,'' a board official said.

A PCB spokesman, however, said a decision to find Taseer's replacement in the tribunal will be taken in the next couple of days.

The tribunal is due to meet on June 8 to resume regular hearing of Shoaib's appeal against the five-year ban tat the PCB disciplinary committee had imposed on him..

Earlier last month, The tribunal had suspended the ban for a month to allow the fast bowler to play in the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL). But the ban will automatically start again from June 4.
