Sulakshana shores up Asian innings
Bangalore, Jun 5 (UNI) A fighting knock of 31 by opener Sulakshana Naik(34 b 5x4) and some lusty hitting by tailenders Kumarihami (22 n o) and Urooj Mumtaz (18), enabled Asia to score 105 for nine in the allotted 20 overs against Africa in the Women's Afro-Asia Cup Twenty20 match at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here today.
A hostile spell of medium pace bowling by left-handed Ashlyn Petro (3/16) left Asia reeling at 4 for three. But Sulakshana shored up the innings well to help the hosts post a satisfying total. After the Indian opener left at 64 for 8, Kumarihami and Urooj Mumtaz of Pakistan boosted the Asian tally to three figure score adding 26 runs for the ninth wicket. Kumarhami struck three boundaries in her short innings off just 18 balls.
The other African medium pacer Milo Thandolwenkos (2/20) also proved tough to handle for the Asian batters. Julle Chibhabha took 1/14, while three Asian batswomen fell, run out. The Africans proved to be quite sharp in the field.
