Strict IOA norms for dope testing in Games
Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has set stringent norms for dope testing during the 33rd National Games in tune with international standard.
A senior dope control officer in the Games informed that dope samples collected from athletes and players participating at the Games were being sent regularly to a Bangkok laboratory for final analysis.
Every day the dope control team is collecting over 200 samples for testing.
The IOA has deputed anti-doping experts pooled from different parts of the country for the National Games. The team includes dope control officers, assistant dope control officers, dope samplers and marshals.
Fourteen dope control centers have been set up at different Games venues while Nehru Stadium Indoor Hall in the heart of the city houses the central dope control center. All the samples after being processed at the center at Nehru Stadium are sent next morning to a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Bangkok for final analysis.
Meanwhile, a big team of physicians including reputed specialists, anti-doping experts, paramedics supported by well-equipped ambulances, laboratories is made available for the Games.
The medical team comprises of 30 specialist physicians, about 100 general doctors, 120 nurses and 30 physiotherapists including 20 sports physiotherapists.
All the medicines including life saving drugs, sports medicines and general medicines that are in the use for the Games, are in the prescribed list of the WADA.
