Shubman Gill surpasses Imam-ul-Haq to register massive ODI feat, almost breaks Shikhar Dhawan's record
India opener Shubman Gill on Tuesday broke a massive ODI record held by Imam-ul-Haq during the third and final ODI against West Indies in Trinidad. The right-hander stormed back to form with 85 off 92 balls in the match.
The runs helped him reach to 1437 - the highest by any batter in the history of ODI cricket after 27 innings. Imam scored 1381 runs in as many innings. South Africa batter Rassie Van Der Dussen is third on the list with 1353 runs in 27 ODI games.

Most runs after 27 ODI innings
Shubman Gill (IND): 1437
Imam-ul-Haq (PAK): 1381
Rassie Van Der Dussen (SA): 1353
Ryan ten Doeschate (NED): 1353
Jonathan Trott (ENG): 1342
Babar Azam (PAK): 1330
Hashim Amla (SA): 1326
Fakhar Zaman (PAK): 1300
The 23-year-old from Punjab partnered for 143 runs with Ishan Kishan who scored 77 off 64 balls in the match. The foundation laid by the two propelled India to 351/5 at the end of 50 overs. India later defended the target by 200 runs to win the series 2-1. Gill was adjudged Man of the Match.
Had the promising young batter scored 15 more runs, he would have become the fastest Indian to hit five ODI hundred. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan holds the record currently. He scored his first five ODI tons in 28 innings. Gill still has the opportunity to equal the feat of Dhawan.
The record for quickest to five ODI hundreds is held by South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock. The southpaw brought up his fifth ODI hundred in just his 19th innings. Imam reached the milestone in 25 innings. Imam's sixth ODI ton came in his 27th innings.
However, Gill now holds the record for most runs after 28 ODI innings. The record will stand intact even if he gets out for a duck in his next ODI outing.
