Shaheen Shah Afridi Returns to Pakistan Squad for First Test Against England on October 7

Pakistan's cricket selectors have announced a 15-member squad for the first Test against England, scheduled to start on October 7. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who missed the final Test against Bangladesh due to poor form, has been recalled for the match in Multan.

The team also includes experienced left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who was not part of the squad for the Bangladesh series.

Pakistan Squad Adjustments and Player Fitness

Noman Ali replaces pace bowler Khurrum Shehzad, who is recovering from an injury sustained during the home series against Bangladesh. All-rounder Aamer Jamal, who missed the Bangladesh series due to fitness issues, has retained his place in the squad. The remaining players were part of the team that faced Bangladesh in two Tests.

Bangladesh surprised many by winning both Tests against Pakistan earlier this month. The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to withdraw selected players from the ongoing Champions Cup ODI event in Faisalabad. This decision aims to provide them with rest before facing England.

Impact on Champions Cup Participation

Most of the selected players, including Shan Masood and Babar Azam, were participating in the Champions Cup play-offs. Head coach Jason Gillispie requested their withdrawal to ensure they are well-rested for the upcoming Test series. Only one or two players from the squad remain involved in the Champions Cup matches.

The Pakistan Test squad comprises Shan Masood as captain and Saud Shakil as vice-captain. Other key players include Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, and Abdullah Shafique. Young talents like Muhammad Huraira and Saim Ayub are also part of the team. The bowling attack features Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah among others.

Pakistan's selectors have made strategic changes to strengthen their squad for the challenging series against England. By recalling key players and ensuring their fitness, they aim to perform better than they did against Bangladesh. The upcoming Test series will be crucial for Pakistan as they seek redemption on home soil.
