Saurav Ghosal moves up in World Rankings

Chennai, Mar 3 (UNI) National Squash Champion Saurav Ghosal has moved a step rung up to 45 in the recent PSA Men's World Ranking.

Saurav recently played the Bear Stearns Tournament in New York, regarded as one of the most prestigious championships in the US.

The young Indian managed to win two qualification matches ensuring his entry into the main draw, but went down to World No 18 Olli Tuominen of Finland, who reached the semi-final in the event.

A delighted SRFI coach Cyrus Poncha said, 'We are indeed proud that both Ritwik and Saurav have cemented their place in the top 50 in the PSA World Rankings.' Ritwik Bhattacharya retained his 41st position. The other Indian players who rose in the PSA World Rankings were Gaurav Nandrajog and Siddarth Suchde. Gaurav moved up from 191 to 178, while Siddarth is ranked 181 compared to his earlier position of 192. While both Harinder Pal Sandhu and Parthibhan Ayyappan were ranked at 202, Naresh Kumar is ranked at 244.

'The ranking acts as a motivating factor for young and upcoming players, and it is no less an achievement when a player moves up each time in the ladder,' said Major Maniam, consultant coach, SRFI.
