Sania mania takes city by storm as cricketers sweat it out

Kolkata, May 2 (UNI) A whirlwind visit to the city by the high priestess of Indian tennis Sania Mirza sent the traffic haywire and the fans to a frenzy.

She arrived at Park Street at noon and did an advertisement stunt by climbing a makeshift ladder to a hoarding to unveil a cold drinks advertisement and then drink that from a bottle. This threw the crowd into a frenzy as Sania, dressed in a white and green combination, waved at the crowd and flashed a million dollar smile from behind the large shades.

The entire programme was of 12 minutes, but traffic was partly diverted on the busy Park Street as a 500-strong crowd stood rooted for the diva's appearance braving a 39 degree Celsius temperature and 89 per cent humidity.

Then she headed for the City Centre where she was mobbed. She was supposed to appear for a private FM Channel but a huge and over enthusiastic crowd meant that the stay was shortlived.

The only words that Sania showered on her fans, ''I love you Kolkata'' before she took off in her AC Innova.
