Salman Shaikh helps Gavaskar XI dismiss Sachin Tendulkar XI for 160

Mumbai, May 7 (UNI) Sunil Gavaskar XI's right arm medium pace bowler Salman Shaikh (5 for 35) was the star performer against Sachin Tendulkar XI helping his team dismiss the opposition for 160 runs in the Elf Cup U/15 selection trial cricket tournament that commenced here today.

In the second match of the day at Elf Ground Dilip Vengsarkar XI routed Cadence Academy (Pune) team for 235 runs, were 124 for 3 at close of play on the first day, recovering from a precarious position of 3 for 14 at one point.

At Wankhede stadium, Tendulkar XI, who elected to bat after winning the toss, were 5 for 58 in the 28th over. Very slow batting put them in danger. Right arm medium pace bowler Salman Shaikh, who did most of the damage to their batting, took 5 for 35 in 16 overs.

Number six batsman Chirag Pagdhare (36) tried to steady their innings by putting 42-run partnership with Salman Charolia (19) for the sixth wicket and then added 41 runs for the 8th wicket along with Sagar Mishra (16). Due to his efforts, Tendulkar XI could put 160 runs on the board. In reply to that Gavaskar XI made 10 runs without losing any wicket at close of play.

At Elf ground Cadence Academy chose to bat first after winning the toss. They made good start but could not build on the solid start. Kapil Raut (74 runs in 112 balls with 7 fours) and Sagar Swami (58 runs in 98 balls with 8 fours) put together 113 runs for the fifth wicket. There after Kapil Raut again added 49 runs with the help of Shubham Ranjane (69 not out in 82 balls with 11 fours) for the 6th wicket. Mahesh Sangpal right arm medium pace was the most successful bowler for Vengsarkar XI, who took 3 for 40 runs.

Dilip Vengsarkar XI were 14 for 3 at one stage. But opener Swapnil Kamble (batting 50) and number four batsman Azhar Sayed (batting 56) steadied their inning by putting 110 runs partnership for the fourth wicket.
