Sachin, Zaheer, Agarkar rested from Mumbai's Twenty20 squad
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) India stars Sachin Tendulkar, Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan have been left out of the Mumbai team for the Twenty20 West Zone Cricket Tournament to be held here from April 3-7.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) selection committee which selected the team also omitted opener Wasim Jaffer and all-rounder Ramesh Powar from the 15-member squad which will feature Mumbai's Under-22 medium-pacer Rohan Raje.
The reason given for the exclusion of the three India stars was that they needed rest after returning home from the dismal World Cup campaign.
Captained by middle-order batsman Amol Muzumdar, the Ranji champions, fresh from their victory in the Premier Cup (Ranji One-day tournament), would look to sustain their fine run of form in their quest to add another title this season.
Mumbai will get their campaign underway against Baroda in the opening match of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium on April 3, while Gujarat meets Maharashtra in the second tie slated during the afternoon session.
Saurashtra, the other team in the five-day tournament, will battle it out against Maharashtra at the Brabourne Stadium on April 4.
Mumbai squad: Amol Muzumdar (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Morris, Rohit Sharma, Vinayak Mane, Abhishek Nair, Nilesh Kulkarni, Iqbal Abdulla, Vinayak Samant, Avishkar Salvi, Usman Malvi, Mussavir Khote, Rohan Raje, Wilkin Mota and Prafu Waghela.
