Sachin, Sourav rested for ODIs, Tewary gets nod
Mumbai, Apr 20 (UNI) In a bold move, top stars Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were ''rested'' from the ODI squad but included in the Test team while Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan and Ajit Agarkar were dropped from both the squads announced today for next month's Bangladesh tour.
The national selectors, who met under the chairmanship of Dilip Vengsarkar, rewarded Bengal middle-order batsman Manoj Tewary for his consistent domestic performance and he finds a place in the 15-member ODI squad, although he could not make it to the Test side.
The selectors also included Virender Sehwag in the ODI squad, while dropping him from the 15-member Test team.
Left-arm spinner Rajesh Pawar has been given his first chance in the Test team, while the selectors recalled Punjab batsman Dinesh Mongia in the ODI squad.
Also finding a place in the ODI squad was leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, off-spinner Ramesh Powar who has also found a place in the Test squad, and Gautam Gambhir made a return in the ODI team.
