Daryl Mitchell | Player of the Match:
"The amount of grass on the pitch didn’t make much of a difference in terms of sideways movement. We tried to build partnerships, and in the end, those partnerships gave us a solid platform. I’d say 180 was about par, and we were lucky to get some good partnerships through the innings. Abdullah Shafique absorbed the pressure well and then put it back on them. The role of No.4 is to adapt to different conditions, and today I just tried to stay positive."
"Perhaps the conditions got a bit better for batting in the second innings, but I think the real difference was the quality of our top and middle-order. I don’t think 186 was a subpar total at all, but unfortunately for Multan, they weren’t able to put up a disciplined effort towards the end and leaked too many boundaries. When you’ve got the two best chasers in modern-day cricket, like Sikandar Raza and myself, in top form, it makes things harder for the opposition."
"Abdullah played a really measured knock and gave us much-needed stability, while Fakhar Zaman provided a brisk start at the top. As for Multan, they’ve now been defeated for the fifth time this season and are now on the brink of early elimination. Earlier, Rizwan and Ghulam did some fantastic rebuilding work and were superb towards the end, making up for a slightly sluggish middle phase."
How the Match Unfolded:
Put into bat first, Multan Sultans posted a strong total of 185/3 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a sublime knock from skipper Mohammad Rizwan, who remained unbeaten on 76 runs from 48 balls, peppering the field with six crisp boundaries and three maximums.
Rizwan found support in Kamran Ghulam, who smashed a rapid 52 not out from 31 balls, propelling the Sultans beyond the 180-mark. Despite the efforts of the Lahore bowlers, wickets were hard to come by as only Tom Curran, Haris Rauf, and Daryl Mitchell could strike.
The Lahore chase, however, was not all smooth sailing. They stumbled early, losing Mohammad Naeem cheaply before Fakhar Zaman (28 off 22) gave them a steady base. But when Abdullah Shafique (34 off 25) and Daryl Mitchell came together, Lahore’s innings found stability and momentum.
Mitchell’s 64 off 38 balls, laced with four boundaries and four towering sixes, was a batting masterclass in controlled aggression. His departure in the 19th over could have sparked jitters, but Sikandar Raza stood tall with a blazing 40* off 21 balls, taking Lahore over the line with six balls to spare.
