Prasun to go uncontested; panel challenged in CAB polls

Kolkata, July 20 (UNI) Incumbent CAB President Prasun Mukherjee may have been given a green signal in the coming state cricket body poll to retain his seat, but his panel may face a tough challenge from a rejuvenated opposition on July 28.

Today was the last day of filing nominations and both secretaries and treasurer will face tough competition and so will one of the vice-presidents.

While Jt Secretary Amitava Banerjee will face challenge from Biswaroop Dey, Saradindu Pal has decided to complete his full tenure throwing a spanner on Samar Pal's hopes of easing into the joint secretary's seat.

Sitting treasurer Shib Kumar Kalyani has also decided to go another year, thus Mukerjee's candidate Tushar Sarkar having to fight for a place under the sun.

Vice-president Indranath Dey will face opposition from Arijit Ray, who filed his nomination from Measurer's Club today.

Though Jagmohan Dalmiya has made it clear that he was not interested in contesting the CAB polls this time, it is evident that his being cleared by the High Court for contesting the polls has come as a big boost for his loyalists.

While Biswaroop Dey is a known Dalmiya man, Saradindu Pal has increased proximity with the seasoned cricket administrator off late.

Calcutta High Court today stayed Jagmohan Dalmiya's expulsion from BCCI, directing that he was free to contest any election of Indian board or its affiliated units, while Dalmiya filed a perjury case against BCCI before the court.
