Ponting injury still being assessed, Australia say

JOHANNESBURG, Sep 19 (Reuters) Australian captain Ricky Ponting is being assessed by medical staff and has not yet been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup, a team spokesman told Reuters today.

Ponting strained his hamstring while batting in Tuesday's loss to Pakistan in Johannesburg and did not field when Australia bowled.

''Ricky has not been ruled out of the tournament yet. His hamstring will be assessed over the next 48 hours and as soon as a decision is made by the medical staff, a statement will be issued by Cricket Australia,'' media manager Lachy Patterson said.
