PHOTOS: Virat Kohli and R Ashwin dazzle on 2nd day of 1st Test
North South (Antigua), July 23: Captain Virat Kohli scored his maiden double century in Test cricket to put India in control of the first Test against West Indies on Friday (July 22).
Kohli hit 200 while Ravichandran Ashwin (113) notched up his third Test ton as India declared their first innings at 566/8. In reply, West Indies were 33/1 at stumps on the second day.
Resuming at his overnight score of 143, Kohli brought up his double hundred in the last over before lunch. However, he could not add to his tally of 200 as he was bowled by Shannon Gabriel in the first over after the break.
With his 200, Kohli became the first Indian captain to score a double century in an overseas Test. He ended India's 84-year wait.
