PCB Claims Massive PSL 2025 Viewership Despite IPL Clash, Streaming Surges by 826.5% in Opening Week
PSL 2025: The battle of cricketing giants is not just confined to the field anymore. As IPL 2025 lights up India with its razzmatazz and nail-biting finishes, Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament—the Pakistan Super League (PSL)—has fired a shot of its own, not with the bat or ball, but with streaming numbers that have left fans stunned.
On Sunday, April 20, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to social media to drop a jaw-dropping statistic: the PSL 2025 season has witnessed a whopping 826.5% increase in streaming viewership compared to last year. Yes, you read that right—eight hundred and twenty-six percent!

PCB’s Bold Claim Sparks Debate
Posting on the official PSL X (formerly Twitter) account, the league proudly proclaimed,
“Pakistan tuned in like never before! 👀 #HBLPSLX smashes streaming records with an 826.5% jump!”
The tweet was accompanied by a ticketing link, urging fans to not just stream but also experience the action live in the stadiums.
The declaration sparked a frenzy online, with Pakistani fans celebrating the surge and cricket analysts taking note of this unexpected rise, especially considering that the tournament is running simultaneously with the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL).
Clash of the Titans: PSL vs IPL
The PSL 2025 began on April 11 with a face-off between Lahore Qalandars and reigning champions Islamabad United at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. So far, nine matches have been played across two venues, though many of them have leaned heavily in favour of one side—resulting in a string of one-sided affairs.
Still, fans are turning up in droves—digitally, at least. The real surprise lies in how PSL 2025 is holding its own in terms of digital engagement, even as IPL 2025 continues to dominate headlines with last-over thrillers, super overs, and sold-out stadiums.
While India’s IPL marches through its halfway point with a double-header scheduled on April 20 (in Mullanpur and Mumbai), PSL will see top-of-the-table Islamabad United clash with David Warner’s Karachi Kings at the iconic National Stadium in Karachi.
Babar Azam Adds Star Power
A big draw for the PSL this year is none other than Babar Azam. The Zalmi skipper is back in blazing form, sending the ball flying with some towering sixes in practice ahead of their match against Multan Sultans. His resurgence has only added to the league’s overall buzz, both on-ground and online.
Fans Say: "It’s Not About Size, It’s About Passion"
Social media is abuzz with loyal PSL fans claiming that the league’s appeal lies not just in flashy production, but in raw, unfiltered cricket passion. Some even joked that while IPL may have the money, PSL has “heart and soul.”
Whether or not PSL can consistently rival IPL’s global outreach remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: the PCB has found a new weapon in the form of booming digital engagement. And the world is watching.
