PCB chief headed for stormy meeting with Senators
Lahore, June 11 (UNI) With a court battle already looming large between Nasim Ashraf and Senator Enver Baig, the PCB chairman and Members of the Senate's Standing Committee on Sports are headed for a potentially explosive meeting to be held later this month.
In the battle for gaining one-upmanship, four of the members have sought a meeting with Mr Ashraf to discuss a series of thorny issues ranging from the delay in implementation of a new PCB constitution to the hiring and firing process in the Board.
''All of us are concerned over the state of affairs in the PCB and want to know what happened to its new constitution and also about the people it is hiring and firing,'' said Baig.
The Senators are planning to corner the PCB chairman on the delay of non-implementation of the PCB constitution in spite of his firm commitment to the Standing Committee that the constitution will be enforced by January 31 this year.
Baig has time and again criticised the PCB for failing to implement its constitution and believes that Ashraf doesn't have the credentials to run the Board in a professional manner.
''We have waited for several months but it doesn't seem that the chairman of the PCB ad-hoc committee is in the mood to implement a new constitution,'' he told 'The News'.
Besides, the members also want the chief to provide valid reasons as to why some employees were terminated and why many were appointed since August last year.
The committee wants a complete list of PCB employees, both permanent and contractual, with details of their salaries and other perks.
Baig suspects that the Board has hired several officials in recent months and is now paying them 'fat salaries'.
The members of the 'paid' national selection committee are also in the committee's radar. The members want to know the criteria of appointing the selectors and have asked the Board to submit the CVs of all the national senior and junior selectors.
The members have also asked the Board to provide Pakistan's Test and ODI rankings besides seeking details of the contracts to be given to the leading national cricketers.
