PBKS vs DC, Dharamshala IPL 2025 Match Called Off: Why was it abandoned? Reasons Explained
The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), scheduled for May 8 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, has been abandoned.
The match was abandoned when Punjab Kings were batting at 122 for 1 at the end of 10.1 overs.
This abandonment is particularly significant given the playoff implications for both teams. PBKS, positioned third on the points table with 15 points from 11 matches, missed an opportunity to solidify their playoff berth. DC, on the other hand, remained fifth with 13 points from 11 matches and now faces increased pressure to win their remaining fixtures to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Why was the PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 Match Abandoned?
The match was called off after one of the floodlights started malfunctioning at the ground. Soon after that, the decision was taken to abandon the match.
It is understood that the match was forced to be called off due to a power outage, and the IPL authorities were told to evacuate the ground for security reasons. The blackout around Dharamshala is the reason why the power outage took place at the stadium immediately.
Amid the escalation between India and Pakistan's war, an attack was targeted in Jammu on Thursday evening. A number of missiles were targeted at the Jammu airport as harrowing visuals escalated security concerns for the northern union territory. And as an aftermath, the decision was taken to call off the IPL fixture.
