In Pics: New Zealand bowlers dominate Day 1 of India's 500th Test
Kanpur, Sep 22: New Zealand bowlers put up an impressive show on the first day of Kanpur Test as the visitors restricted hosts India on 291/9 at the end of the day's play on Thursday (September 22).
Indian batsmen played some irresponsible shots as they gifted their wickets away.
But the credit could not be taken away from the New Zealand bowlers who came back strongly in the second session and pushed India on the backfoot.
New Zealand spinners Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi along with Mark Craig kept troubling the India batters while pacer Trent Boult demolished the lower order in the final session of the game.
Murali Vijay (65) and Cheteshwar Pujara (62) could not capitalise on their promising starts as visiters bounced back strongly.
The 500th Test match for India began with the felicitation of the former and current Indian captains.
