Nathan Lyon Surpasses Anil Kumble to Become Highest Wicket-Taker in Border Gavaskar Trophy History

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon on Thursday (March 2) became the highest wicket-taker in Border Gavaskar Trophy history with his 23rd five-wicket haul in Test matches.
With figures of 8 for 64 in the third innings of India vs Australia 3rd Test, Lyon surpassed India legend Anil Kumble's tally of 111 scalps to take his tally to 113 in 46 innings. Former India spinner Kumble had claimed 111 wickets in 38 innings.
The 35-year-old Australian achieved the feat in the third innings of the third Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
Current Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have struck a good partnership, also are not far behind with 107 and 84 wickets to their name respectively.

This was also Lyon's ninth five-wicket haul, the most by a bowler vs India, and a second 10-wicket match against India. It was also the fourth best bowling innings for a visiting player in India.
New Zealand's Ajaz Patel holds the record for the best bowling innings for a visiting team in India thanks to his 10-wicket haul in the 2021 Test in Mumbai. Lyon had earlier produced even better figures with a performance of 8 for 50 in 2017 Test in Bengaluru.
