Murali to play for Bengal in Ranji

Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) If everything goes well according to Jagmohan Dalimya's plan, the world's highest wicket taker Muttiah Muralitharan will play for Bengal in Ranji cricket this season.

Disclosing this, the Cricket Association of Bengal(CAB) president said Murali's playing for Bengal in Ranji was assured but how many matches he would play will depend only on his availability.

Bengal was relegated to Ranji Plate from Elite last season and Mr Dalmiya, soon after assuming the office on a new turn, vowed to work for promotion of Bengal cricket.

Under new rules, a state can have three outstation players and a foreigner and roping Murali in for Bengal Ranji was seen as the first attempt in that direction.

Before roping in the spin wizard who has 756 wickets in his kitty, Mr Dalmiya appointed former all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath as chief consultant for Bengal cricket.
