“MI Might Have Won a Game or Two”: Harbhajan Singh Links Rohit Sharma’s Fitness to Mumbai’s Losing Streak

Mumbai Indians brought an end to their losing streak in the Indian Premier League with a convincing six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants, and much of the spotlight was on Rohit Sharma's impactful return from injury.

Speaking on JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live', former India spinner Harbhajan Singh highlighted Rohit's influence, suggesting Mumbai's campaign might have looked very different had the opener returned sooner.

"It's important to be in the middle. You can only do so much from the dugout, but Rohit came in and made a real difference. He not only laid the foundation but built on it, leaving little for the rest. If his injury had healed earlier, MI might have won a game or two during that losing streak and stayed more firmly in contention," Harbhajan said.

He added that Mumbai still has an outside chance of making the playoffs if they win all their remaining matches and reach the 14-point mark, especially if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Shastri Points Out Problem Of Consistency In Lucknow

Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri pointed out the lack of consistency as the primary concern for Lucknow. He noted that the team has struggled to deliver complete performances, with either the batting or bowling unit underperforming in most matches.

"When the bowlers do well, the batters don't capitalise, and when the batters score, the bowlers concede too much. That inconsistency hurts. Six straight losses can dent confidence, and even in strong positions, doubts creep in," Shastri observed on JioHotstar.

Looking ahead to the 'Revenge Week' clash between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, Shastri expects a tightly contested encounter. He noted that Chennai has gained momentum, while Delhi, despite being competitive, has been undone by narrow defeats.

He also pointed to key players returning to form and fitness, including Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mitchell Starc, which could play a crucial role. With both teams relying heavily on their top-order contributions, Shastri believes Delhi may hold a slight edge given their home advantage and balanced squad.
