Kiwi Rebecca Rolls becomes 12th batswoman to complete 2,000 ODI runs
Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) New Zealand wicketkeeper-bat Rebecca Rolls has become only the 12th player to complete 2,000 ODI runs when she scored a match-winning hundred against Australia in the ongoing women's quadrangular series -- also involving India and England -- here.
Rolls hit an unbeaten 87-ball 104 with 18 fours and a six, her second career century, as the White Ferns achieved their target of 261 with 30 balls to spare yesterday. Her first hundred also came against Australia in the lost Rosebowl Series game at Lincoln in 2002.
When Rolls reached 17, she joined a select group of 11 other players to have topped 2,000 ODI runs, which also includes India skipper Mithali Raj and veteran Anjum Chopra.
A modest Rolls said she was delighted her contribution had earned the White Ferns a much-awaited victory against the world champions, after Australia had won the previous series between the two sides 5-0.
''Obviously, to complete 2,000 ODI runs is a very satisfying moment but I am happier because it came in a victorious game and that too against Australia whom we have not beaten for quite some time. It was a perfect icing on the cake,'' she said.
The players to have 2,000 or more runs: Belinda Clark (Aus,4,844), Debbie Hockley (NZ,4,064), Karen Rolton (Aus,3,810), Emily Drumm (NZ,2,844), Charlotte Edwards (Eng,2,764), Lisa Keightley (Aus,2,630), Mithali Raj (Ind,2,648), Anjum Chopra (Ind,2,409), Claire Taylor (Eng,2,126), Janette Brittin (Eng,2,121), Rebecca Rolls (NZ,2,087), Haidee Tiffen (NZ,2,015) UNI
